The Co-op Model
Being Part of the Cooperative Movement
Housing co-ops come in various types and are a growing alternative for providing affordable and comfortable housing. In some towns around the world, up to a quarter of residents live in housing co-ops. Cooperatives stand out as tested solutions for sustainable, inclusive, and affordable housing — frequently serving as models for cities seeking alternatives to speculative housing markets.
You are a Co-op Casa owner, not a tenant
When you become a Co-op Casa resident, you own a share of the Co-op Casa cooperative — not just your unit or your community, but the entire cooperative enterprise. Your monthly fee along with your neighbors’ is the engine that drives Co-op Casa. Your hard-earned dollars benefit people who live here and the community — not outside investors.
Become involved as much as you want
Residents play a meaningful role in Co-op Casa. You can volunteer to tend the native plants, give tours, even get involved in co-op wide advisory groups. You choose your level of involvement: simply live here and take good care of your home or become more involved in expanding Co-op Casa — even run for the Board of Directors.
Being part of something larger
Co-op Casa demonstrates that permanently affordable, sustainable cooperative housing is possible in Tucson — and worth replicating. At Co-op Casa, you are part of that movement.
We will have multiple Co-op Casa communities in Tucson and connect with similar co-ops in other states and countries.
